MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 6 · UNIT 3 OF 4
Reformation and the Public Word
Study passage: Romans 3:21-26. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
Reformation writers disputed authority, grace, practices and church structures. Compare Luther, Calvin, and later Catholic responses using sources rather than memes. Record where their concerns overlap and differ. Also investigate episodes of coercion, anti-Jewish rhetoric and political entanglement rather than separating a famous theologian from the consequences of their words.
Pastoral case to discuss
A church class wants to teach that every member of another tradition follows one crude stereotype. How would you correct it without pretending disagreements are trivial?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Write a balanced 700-word comparison based on at least two historic primary texts.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
