MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 6 · UNIT 4 OF 4

Revivals, Missions and Historical Accountability

Study passage: Galatians 3:28. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.

Teaching and interpretation

Revival and missionary movements have inspired education and charity but also existed inside colonial systems and social hierarchies. Study Whitefield's preaching alongside his support of enslavement; examine other sources, including affected people's testimony. Recognition of religious influence cannot become an excuse to conceal harm.

Pastoral case to discuss

An exhibit celebrates a famous preacher and removes all mention of enslaved people. What must a truthful exhibit include?

Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.

Required practical exercise

Draft a fair museum-style label naming contributions, harms, dates and sources.

Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
