MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 2 · UNIT 1 OF 4
Creation and Covenant
Study passage: Genesis 12:1-3. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
Genesis opens with creation, rupture, families and God's dealings with the world. In the call of Abram, blessing is connected with a family and a wider human purpose. Trace the movement from Genesis 1–11 to Genesis 12 without assuming every detail describes modern political borders or biology. Notice the difference between narrating an ancient claim and proposing a modern scientific model.
Pastoral case to discuss
Someone wants Genesis 12 used as a proof text for a specific current political program. How can you read the original narrative before making disputed applications?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Create a one-page timeline and identify three claims directly stated by the passage and three interpretations requiring further argument.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
