MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 2 · UNIT 3 OF 4
Prophets and Public Ethics
Study passage: Amos 5:21-24. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
Prophetic rhetoric often joins criticism of worship practices with demands for justice and integrity. Amos speaks in the setting of ancient Israel's economic and religious life. Read the whole oracle and identify the conduct condemned before invoking it in a contemporary controversy. Do not treat one prophet as a slogan for a political party or excuse unfair treatment within a church.
Pastoral case to discuss
A ministry has impressive services but ignores serious financial misconduct. How does the prophetic concern for justice challenge the ministry without turning the passage into partisan propaganda?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Write a case memo distinguishing evidence, prophetic principles, safeguards and a proposed independent review.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
