The Trinity is the Christian attempt to speak faithfully about the whole biblical witness: there is one God; the Father is God; the Son is God; the Holy Spirit is God; and Father, Son, and Spirit are personally distinct. Christianity does not teach three gods.
No single verse contains later theological vocabulary in finished form. The doctrine developed as Christians held together God’s oneness and the biblical testimony about Father, Son, and Spirit.
