Matthew 9:10Later, as Jesus was dining at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with Him and His disciples.Matthew 9:11When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”Matthew 9:12On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.Matthew 9:13But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”Matthew 12:2When the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”Matthew 12:3Jesus replied, “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?Matthew 12:4He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for them to eat, but only for the priests.Matthew 12:5Or haven’t you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and yet are innocent?Matthew 12:6But I tell you that One greater than the temple is here.Matthew 12:7If only you had known the meaning of ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.Matthew 15:1Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,Matthew 15:2“Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.Matthew 15:7You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you:Matthew 15:8‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.Matthew 15:9They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’”Matthew 15:10Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Listen and understand.Matthew 15:11A man is not defiled by what enters his mouth, but by what comes out of it.”Matthew 15:12Then the disciples came to Him and said, “Are You aware that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”Matthew 15:13But Jesus replied, “Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by its roots.Matthew 15:14Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”Matthew 15:15Peter said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”Matthew 15:16“Do you still not understand?” Jesus asked.Matthew 15:17“Do you not yet realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is eliminated?Matthew 15:18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a man.Matthew 15:19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.Matthew 15:20These are what defile a man, but eating with unwashed hands does not defile him.”Matthew 21:19Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree withered.Matthew 21:20When the disciples saw this, they marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”Matthew 21:28But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first one and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’Matthew 21:29‘I will not,’ he replied. But later he changed his mind and went.Matthew 21:30Then the man went to the second son and told him the same thing. ‘I will, sir,’ he said. But he did not go.Matthew 21:31Which of the two did the will of his father?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.Matthew 21:32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.Matthew 21:33Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.Matthew 21:34When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the fruit.Matthew 21:35But the tenants seized his servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.Matthew 21:36Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group. But the tenants did the same to them.Matthew 21:37Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.Matthew 21:38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance.’Matthew 21:39So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.Matthew 21:40Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those tenants?”Matthew 21:41“He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the fruit at harvest time.”Matthew 21:42Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?Matthew 21:43Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.Matthew 21:44He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”Matthew 23:2“The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.Matthew 23:3So practice and observe everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.Matthew 23:4They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.Matthew 23:8But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.Matthew 23:9And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.Matthew 23:10Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Christ.Matthew 23:13Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.Matthew 23:14Matthew 23:15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.Matthew 23:16Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’Matthew 23:17You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes it sacred?
