Matthew 23:18And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’Matthew 23:19You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes it sacred?Matthew 23:20So then, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.Matthew 23:21And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the One who dwells in it.Matthew 23:22And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it.Matthew 23:23Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous.Matthew 23:30And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’Matthew 23:31So you testify against yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.Matthew 23:32Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your fathers.Matthew 23:33You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape the sentence of hell?Matthew 23:34Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and others you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town.Matthew 23:35And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Mark 7:2and they saw some of His disciples eating with hands that were defiled—that is, unwashed.Mark 7:3Now in holding to the tradition of the elders, the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat until they wash their hands ceremonially.Mark 7:4And on returning from the market, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions for them to observe, including the washing of cups, pitchers, kettles, and couches for dining.Mark 7:5So the Pharisees and scribes questioned Jesus: “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders? Instead, they eat with defiled hands.”Mark 7:6Jesus answered them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.Mark 7:7They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’Mark 7:8You have disregarded the commandment of God to keep the tradition of men.”Mark 7:9He went on to say, “You neatly set aside the command of God to maintain your own tradition.Mark 7:10For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’Mark 7:11But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God),Mark 7:12he is no longer permitted to do anything for his father or mother.Mark 7:13Thus you nullify the word of God by the tradition you have handed down. And you do so in many such matters.”Mark 7:14Once again Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “All of you, listen to Me and understand:Mark 7:15Nothing that enters a man from the outside can defile him; but the things that come out of a man, these are what defile him.”Mark 7:16Mark 7:17After Jesus had left the crowd and gone into the house, His disciples inquired about the parable.Mark 7:18“Are you still so dull?” He asked. “Do you not understand? Nothing that enters a man from the outside can defile him,Mark 7:19because it does not enter his heart, but it goes into the stomach and then is eliminated.” (Thus all foods are clean.)Mark 7:20He continued: “What comes out of a man, that is what defiles him.Mark 7:21For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,Mark 7:22greed, wickedness, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness.Mark 7:23All these evils come from within, and these are what defile a man.”Mark 9:49For everyone will be salted with fire.Mark 9:50Salt is good, but if the salt loses its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
