Isaiah 40:3A voice of one calling: “Prepare the way for the LORD in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert.Malachi 4:5Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD.Malachi 4:6And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”Matthew 14:3Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,Matthew 14:4because John had been telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”Matthew 14:5Although Herod wanted to kill John, he was afraid of the people, because they regarded John as a prophet.Matthew 14:6On Herod’s birthday, however, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod Matthew 14:7so much that he promised with an oath to give to her whatever she asked.Matthew 14:8Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”Matthew 14:9The king was grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered that her wish be granted Matthew 14:10and sent to have John beheaded in the prison.Matthew 14:11John’s head was brought in on a platter and presented to the girl, who carried it to her mother.Matthew 14:12Then John’s disciples came and took his body and buried it. And they went and informed Jesus.Matthew 16:14They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”Matthew 17:1After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.Matthew 17:11Jesus replied, “Elijah does indeed come, and he will restore all things.Matthew 17:12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him whatever they wished. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”Matthew 17:13Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist.Matthew 20:20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and knelt down to make a request of Him.Matthew 20:21“What do you want?” He inquired. She answered, “Declare that in Your kingdom one of these two sons of mine may sit at Your right hand, and the other at Your left.”Matthew 20:22“You do not know what you are asking,” Jesus replied. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” the brothers answered.Matthew 20:23“You will indeed drink My cup,” Jesus said. “But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to grant. These seats belong to those for whom My Father has prepared them.”Matthew 20:24When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.Matthew 21:32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.Matthew 26:18He answered, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is near. I will keep the Passover with My disciples at your house.’”Matthew 26:19So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
