Acts 7:58They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.Acts 8:1And Saul was there, giving approval to Stephen’s death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.Acts 8:3But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.Acts 9:1Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the disciples of the Lord. He approached the high priestActs 9:2and requested letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women belonging to the Way, he could bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.Acts 9:3As Saul drew near to Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.Acts 9:4He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?”Acts 9:5“Who are You, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied.Acts 9:6“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”Acts 9:7The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless. They heard the voice but did not see anyone.Acts 9:8Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could not see a thing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus.Acts 9:9For three days he was without sight, and he did not eat or drink anything.Acts 9:10In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Here I am, Lord,” he answered.Acts 9:11“Get up!” the Lord told him. “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.Acts 9:12In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”Acts 9:13But Ananias answered, “Lord, many people have told me about this man and all the harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem.Acts 9:14And now he is here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”Acts 9:15“Go!” said the Lord. “This man is My chosen instrument to carry My name before the Gentiles and their kings, and before the people of Israel.Acts 9:16I will show him how much he must suffer for My name.”Acts 9:17So Ananias went to the house, and when he arrived, he placed his hands on Saul. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”Acts 9:18At that instant, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and his sight was restored. He got up and was baptized,Acts 9:19and after taking some food, he regained his strength. And he spent several days with the disciples in Damascus.Acts 9:20Saul promptly began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, declaring, “He is the Son of God.”Acts 9:21All who heard him were astounded and asked, “Isn’t this the man who wreaked havoc in Jerusalem on those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?”Acts 9:22But Saul was empowered all the more, and he confounded the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ.Acts 9:23After many days had passed, the Jews conspired to kill him,Acts 9:24but Saul learned of their plot. Day and night they watched the city gates in order to kill him.Acts 9:25One night, however, his disciples took him and lowered him in a basket through a window in the wall.Acts 9:26When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.Acts 9:27Then Barnabas brought him to the apostles and described how Saul had seen the Lord, who had spoken to him on the road to Damascus, and how Saul had spoken boldly in that city in the name of Jesus.Acts 9:28So Saul stayed with them, moving about freely in Jerusalem and speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.Acts 9:29He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him.Acts 9:30When the brothers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.Acts 11:25Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,Acts 11:26and when he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. So for a full year they met together with the church and taught large numbers of people. The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.Acts 11:27In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.Acts 11:28One of them named Agabus stood up and predicted through the Spirit that a great famine would sweep across the whole world. (This happened under Claudius.)Acts 11:29So the disciples, each according to his ability, decided to send relief to the brothers living in Judea.Acts 11:30This they did, sending their gifts to the elders with Barnabas and Saul.Acts 12:25When Barnabas and Saul had fulfilled their mission to Jerusalem, they returned, bringing with them John, also called Mark.Acts 13:2While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”Acts 13:3And after they had fasted and prayed, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.Acts 13:4So Barnabas and Saul, sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.Acts 13:5When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. And John was with them as their helper.Acts 13:6They traveled through the whole island as far as Paphos, where they found a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,Acts 13:7an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, a man of intelligence, summoned Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.Acts 13:8But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith.Acts 13:9Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked directly at ElymasActs 13:10and said, “O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness, you are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery! Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord?Acts 13:11Now look, the hand of the Lord is against you, and for a time you will be blind and unable to see the light of the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand.Acts 13:12When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was astonished at the teaching about the Lord.Acts 13:13After setting sail from Paphos, Paul and his companions came to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.Acts 13:14And from Perga, they traveled inland to Pisidian Antioch, where they entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and sat down.Acts 13:15After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent word to them: “Brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.”Acts 13:16Paul stood up, motioned with his hand, and began to speak: “Men of Israel and you Gentiles who fear God, listen to me!Acts 13:17The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers. He made them into a great people during their stay in Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He led them out of that land.Acts 13:18He endured their conduct for about forty years in the wilderness.Acts 13:19And having vanquished seven nations in Canaan, He gave their land to His people as an inheritance.Acts 13:20All this took about 450 years. After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.Acts 13:21Then the people asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.
