Job 1:17While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels, and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”Job 1:18While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,Job 1:19when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”Job 1:20Then Job stood up, tore his robe, and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped,Job 1:21saying: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.”Job 1:22In all this, Job did not sin or charge God with wrongdoing.Job 2:3Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth like him, a man who is blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil. He still retains his integrity, even though you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.”Job 2:4“Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give up all he owns in exchange for his life.Job 2:5But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse You to Your face.”Job 2:6“Very well,” said the LORD to Satan. “He is in your hands, but you must spare his life.”Job 2:7So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and infected Job with terrible boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.Job 2:8And Job took a piece of broken pottery to scrape himself as he sat among the ashes.Job 2:9Then Job’s wife said to him, “Do you still retain your integrity? Curse God and die!”Job 2:10“You speak as a foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept from God only good and not adversity?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.Job 31:1“I have made a covenant with my eyes. How then could I gaze with desire at a virgin?Job 31:5If I have walked in falsehood or my foot has rushed to deceit,Job 31:6let God weigh me with honest scales, that He may know my integrity.Job 31:7If my steps have turned from the path, if my heart has followed my eyes, or if impurity has stuck to my hands,Job 31:8then may another eat what I have sown, and may my crops be uprooted.Job 31:9If my heart has been enticed by my neighbor’s wife, or I have lurked at his door,Job 31:10then may my own wife grind grain for another, and may other men sleep with her.Job 31:11For that would be a heinous crime, an iniquity to be judged.Job 31:12For it is a fire that burns down to Abaddon; it would root out my entire harvest.Job 31:13If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or maidservant when they made a complaint against me,Job 31:14what will I do when God rises to judge? How will I answer when called to account?Job 31:15Did not He who made me in the womb also make them? Did not the same One form us in the womb?Job 31:16If I have denied the desires of the poor or allowed the widow’s eyes to fail,Job 31:17if I have eaten my morsel alone, not sharing it with the fatherless—Job 31:19if I have seen one perish for lack of clothing, or a needy man without a cloak,Job 31:20if his heart has not blessed me for warming him with the fleece of my sheep,Job 31:21if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless because I saw that I had support in the gate,Job 31:22then may my arm fall from my shoulder and be torn from its socket.Job 31:23For calamity from God terrifies me, and His splendor I cannot overpower.Job 31:24If I have put my trust in gold or called pure gold my security,Job 31:25if I have rejoiced in my great wealth because my hand had gained so much,Job 31:26if I have beheld the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor,Job 31:27so that my heart was secretly enticed and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,Job 31:28this would also be an iniquity to be judged, for I would have denied God on high.Job 31:29If I have rejoiced in my enemy’s ruin, or exulted when evil befell him—Job 31:30I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for his life with a curse—Job 31:31if the men of my house have not said, ‘Who is there who has not had his fill?’—Job 31:32but no stranger had to lodge on the street, for my door has been open to the traveler—Job 31:33if I have covered my transgressions like Adam by hiding my guilt in my heart,Job 31:34because I greatly feared the crowds and the contempt of the clans terrified me, so that I kept silent and would not go outside—Job 31:38if my land cries out against me and its furrows weep together,Job 31:39if I have devoured its produce without payment or broken the spirit of its tenants,Job 31:40then let briers grow instead of wheat and stinkweed instead of barley.” Thus conclude the words of Job.Psalm 17:4As for the deeds of men—by the word of Your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.Psalm 66:10For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us like silver.Psalm 66:11You led us into the net; You laid burdens on our backs.Psalm 66:12You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but You brought us into abundance.Psalm 66:13I will enter Your house with burnt offerings; I will fulfill my vows to You—Psalm 73:2But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped.Psalm 73:3For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.Psalm 73:4They have no struggle in their death; their bodies are well-fed.Psalm 73:5They are free of the burdens others carry; they are not afflicted like other men.Psalm 73:6Therefore pride is their necklace; a garment of violence covers them.Psalm 73:7From their prosperity proceeds iniquity; the imaginations of their hearts run wild.Psalm 73:8They mock and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression.Psalm 73:9They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongues strut across the earth.
