Ver. 12. ov καθὼς, κ.τελ., a loose, almost ungrammatical expression, analo- gous to John vi. 58. Were there no ov, ver. Ir might be regarded as a paren- thesis: “Πε that loveth not his brother, even as Cain was, etc.”. The phrase is elliptical: “' We must not hate our brethren, even as Cain was, etc.”. τοῦ πον., see note on ii. 18. ἔσφαξεν, a strong word, ‘“‘slaughtered,” ‘‘ butchered,” properly by cutting the throat (jugulare), like an ox in the shambles.
