Is come (épyopevov). Wrong. The verb is in the present participle, coming, which describes the manhood of Christ as still being manifested. See on 1 John iii. 5. In 1 John iv. 2 we have the manifestation treated as a past fact by the perfect tense, éAndutora has come. Rev., that Jesus Christ cometh. So in 1 Thess. i. 10, ris dpyiis rijs épyouévns is the wrath which is coming ; which has already begun its movement and is ad- vancing : not merely, as A. V., the wrath to come, which makes it wholly a future event. See on lingereth, 2 Pet. ii. 3.
An antichrist (0 avriypicros). Rev., rendering the definite article, the antichrist. See on 1 John ii. 18,
8. Look to yourselves that (@rérrere éautods Wa). “Iva in order that, marks the intent of the caution. See on John xv. 13.
We lose (aodéowpev). The best texts read dmronéonte, ye lose. So Rey., with destroy in margin. For the meanings of the verb see on Luke ix. 25.
We receive (a7oAdSwpev). The best texts read darordBnrte, ye recewe. The compounded preposition dard, has the force of back: recewe back from God.
Reward (uoJov). See on 2 Pet. ii. 18, and compare Matt. v. 12; John iv. 86; 1 Cor. iii. 8; Apoc. xi. 18; xxii. 12.
9. Whosoever transgresseth (7ds 6 wapaBalvov). The best texts read mpodywy gocth onward. So Rev., with taketh the lead in margin. The meaning is, whosoever advances beyond the limits of Christian doctrine. Others explain of those who would set themselves up as teachers, or take the lead.
