Earthquake (cescpos). Lit., shaking. Used also of a@ tem- pest. See on Matt. viii. 24, and compare Matt. xxiv. 7. The word here is not necessarily confined to shaking the earth. In Matt. xxiv. 29, it is predicted that the powers of the heavens shall be shaken (carevSjoovrat, see on Luke xxi. 26). Here also the heaven is removed (ver. 14). Compare Heb. xii. 26, where the verb cetw to shake (kindred with cevcpds) is used.
