Managing Disagreement
Study passage: Romans 14:1-13. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
Christians differ in conscience and practice. Some disagreements are genuinely serious, while others involve choices that should not be elevated into tests of salvation. A leader can explain the congregation's convictions while allowing careful questions. Distinguish theological disagreement from abuse and threats, which require a safety response.
Pastoral case to discuss
Two members argue over dietary practices and one calls the other faithless. How can a facilitator return the conversation to context and mutual respect?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Draft a facilitation script that summarizes both positions and sets respectful boundaries.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
