Assessing Growth and Serving Neighbors
Study passage: James 2:14-17. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
Test scores are not the entire purpose of discipleship. Look for meaningful understanding, humble questions, actual care for others and reliable participation, without creating a public ranking of members' private struggles. Offer options for service matched to ability. Keep attendance and progress records minimal and private.
Pastoral case to discuss
A class has perfect quiz scores but ignores a neighbor needing help. What broader learning outcomes should the group review?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Define four observable, non-coercive outcomes that include understanding, community care, reflection and consent.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
