← Preparing and Delivering a Responsible Sermon
MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 8 · UNIT 2 OF 4
Design a Clear Structure
Study passage: Luke 15:11-32. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
A readable sermon follows the text's movement. Prepare an opening that honestly introduces the passage, two or three arguments grounded in it, and a closing that offers a realistic response. Avoid obscure jargon without explanation, unverified statistics and illustrations that exploit another person's confidential story.
Pastoral case to discuss
A sermon outline has twelve disconnected points drawn from twelve verses. How would you rebuild it around one narrative's argument?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Submit a 1,000-word manuscript with Scripture references and clear distinction between original meaning and current application.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
