MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 8 · UNIT 3 OF 4

Teach with Consent and Integrity

Study passage: 2 Corinthians 4:1-6. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.

Teaching and interpretation

Pastors hold influence over people who may be grieving, afraid, ill or desperate. A sermon must not pressure them for money, publicly disclose private information, or present an invented personal testimony as fact. Explain the source of any illustration and obtain consent for identifiable stories. Speaking in plain language and allowing questions can increase trust.

Pastoral case to discuss

A volunteer offers a moving story about a congregant's private medical crisis. Should it be used without explicit permission?

Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.

Required practical exercise

Write a speaker's ethics checklist covering privacy, money, vulnerable listeners, sourcing and corrections.

Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
