MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 10 · UNIT 2 OF 4
Children and Two-Adult Safeguards
Study passage: Matthew 18:1-6. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.
Teaching and interpretation
Protecting children requires documented procedures, not merely an assumption that nice volunteers can be trusted. Appropriate screening, trained supervision, age-specific consent, sign-in processes, visibility and communication rules protect both children and volunteers. A church must know local reporting requirements. No private unsupervised messaging or hidden meetings should be considered normal youth ministry.
Pastoral case to discuss
A volunteer proposes to drive a child alone without parental knowledge. How should a written policy respond?
Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.
Required practical exercise
Design a youth-event safety checklist covering supervision, transport, incident reports, background checks and consent.
Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
