How Do I Read the Bible Without Taking Verses Out of Context?

SHORT ANSWER

Start with the passage around the verse. Ask who is speaking, to whom, in what situation, in what literary form, and what comes before and after. Then compare your conclusion with the rest of Scripture.

CONTEXT MATTERS

Do not stop at the quotation.

A verse can be true and still be misused when detached from its argument, story, covenant, audience, or genre. Application comes after understanding.

Do not take our word for it.

Open the passages. Read the surrounding chapters. Compare translations. Search related passages. If our summary does not survive that process, tell us. Authority should be earned through transparent work, not demanded through branding.
