Genesis 17:15Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, do not call her Sarai, for her name is to be Sarah.Genesis 17:16And I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.”Genesis 17:17Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can Sarah give birth at the age of ninety?”Genesis 17:18And Abraham said to God, “O that Ishmael might live under Your blessing!”Genesis 17:19But God replied, “Your wife Sarah will indeed bear you a son, and you are to name him Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.Genesis 17:20As for Ishmael, I have heard you, and I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He will become the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.Genesis 17:21But I will establish My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”Genesis 18:1Then the LORD appeared to Abraham by the Oaks of Mamre in the heat of the day, while he was sitting at the entrance of his tent.Genesis 18:2And Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.Genesis 18:3“My lord,” said Abraham, “if I have found favor in your sight, please do not pass your servant by.Genesis 18:4Let a little water be brought, that you may wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree.Genesis 18:5And I will bring a bit of bread so that you may refresh yourselves. This is why you have passed your servant’s way. After that, you may continue on your way.” “Yes,” they replied, “you may do as you have said.”Genesis 18:6So Abraham hurried into the tent and said to Sarah, “Quick! Prepare three seahs of fine flour, knead it, and bake some bread.”Genesis 18:7Meanwhile, Abraham ran to the herd, selected a tender and choice calf, and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.Genesis 18:8Then Abraham brought curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and he set them before the men and stood by them under the tree as they ate.Genesis 18:9“Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked. “There, in the tent,” he replied.Genesis 18:10Then the LORD said, “I will surely return to you at this time next year, and your wife Sarah will have a son!” Now Sarah was behind him, listening at the entrance to the tent.Genesis 18:11And Abraham and Sarah were already old and well along in years; Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.Genesis 18:12So she laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?”Genesis 18:13And the LORD asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Can I really bear a child when I am old?’Genesis 18:14Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you—in about a year—and Sarah will have a son.”Genesis 18:15But Sarah was afraid, so she denied it and said, “I did not laugh.” “No,” replied the LORD, “but you did laugh.”Genesis 21:1Now the LORD attended to Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what He had promised.Genesis 21:2So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised.Genesis 21:3And Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore to him.Genesis 21:4When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him.Genesis 21:5Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.Genesis 21:6Then Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears of this will laugh with me.”Genesis 21:7She added, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”Genesis 21:8So the child grew and was weaned, and Abraham held a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.Genesis 21:12But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to everything that Sarah tells you, for through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.Genesis 22:1Some time later God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he answered.Genesis 22:2“Take your son,” God said, “your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”Genesis 22:3So Abraham got up early the next morning, saddled his donkey, and took along two of his servants and his son Isaac. He split the wood for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had designated.Genesis 22:4On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.Genesis 22:5“Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told his servants. “The boy and I will go over there to worship, and then we will return to you.”Genesis 22:6Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac. He himself carried the fire and the sacrificial knife, and the two of them walked on together.Genesis 22:7Then Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” “Here I am, my son,” he replied. “The fire and the wood are here,” said Isaac, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”Genesis 22:8Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two walked on together.Genesis 22:9When they arrived at the place God had designated, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood. He bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar, atop the wood.Genesis 22:10Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.Genesis 22:11Just then the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham, Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.Genesis 22:12“Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him,” said the angel, “for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from me.”Genesis 22:13Then Abraham looked up and saw behind him a ram in a thicket, caught by its horns. So he went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son.Genesis 22:14And Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. So to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”Genesis 22:15And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time,Genesis 22:16saying, “By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your only son,Genesis 22:17I will surely bless you, and I will multiply your descendants like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will possess the gates of their enemies.Genesis 22:18And through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”Genesis 22:19Abraham went back to his servants, and they got up and set out together for Beersheba. And Abraham settled in Beersheba.Genesis 24:62Now Isaac had just returned from Beer-lahai-roi, for he was living in the Negev.Genesis 24:63Early in the evening, Isaac went out to the field to meditate, and looking up, he saw the camels approaching.Genesis 25:9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite.Genesis 25:11After Abraham’s death, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near Beer-lahai-roi.Genesis 25:19This is the account of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac,Genesis 25:20and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Aramean.Genesis 25:21Later, Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD heard his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.Genesis 25:22But the children inside her struggled with each other, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So Rebekah went to inquire of the LORD,Genesis 25:23and He declared to her: “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”Genesis 25:24When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb.
