Genesis 25:25The first one came out red, covered with hair like a fur coat; so they named him Esau.Genesis 25:26After this, his brother came out grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when the twins were born.Genesis 26:2The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt. How could you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac replied, “Because I thought I might die on account of her.”Genesis 26:10“What is this you have done to us?” asked Abimelech. “One of the people could easily have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”Genesis 26:11So Abimelech warned all the people, saying, “Whoever harms this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”Genesis 26:12Now Isaac sowed seed in the land, and that very year he reaped a hundredfold. And the LORD blessed him,Genesis 26:13and he became richer and richer, until he was exceedingly wealthy.Genesis 26:14He owned so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.Genesis 26:15So the Philistines took dirt and stopped up all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the days of his father Abraham.Genesis 26:16Then Abimelech said to Isaac, “Depart from us, for you are much too powerful for us.”Genesis 26:17So Isaac left that place and encamped in the Valley of Gerar and settled there.Genesis 26:18Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the days of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died. And he gave these wells the same names his father had given them.Genesis 26:19Then Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found a well of fresh water there.Genesis 26:20But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they contended with him.Genesis 26:21Then they dug another well and quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.Genesis 26:22He moved on from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. He named it Rehoboth and said, “At last the LORD has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”Genesis 26:23From there Isaac went up to Beersheba,Genesis 26:24and that night the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for the sake of My servant Abraham.”Genesis 26:25So Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the LORD, and he pitched his tent there. His servants also dug a well there.Genesis 26:26Later, Abimelech came to Isaac from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his adviser and Phicol the commander of his army.Genesis 26:27“Why have you come to me?” Isaac asked them. “You hated me and sent me away.”Genesis 26:28“We can plainly see that the LORD has been with you,” they replied. “We recommend that there should now be an oath between us and you. Let us make a covenant with youGenesis 26:29that you will not harm us, just as we have not harmed you but have done only good to you, sending you on your way in peace. And now you are blessed by the LORD.”Genesis 26:30So Isaac prepared a feast for them, and they ate and drank.Genesis 26:31And they got up early the next morning and swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they left him in peace.Genesis 26:32On that same day, Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. “We have found water!” they told him.Genesis 26:33So he called it Shibah, and to this day the name of the city is Beersheba.Genesis 27:18So Jacob went to his father and said, “My father.” “Here I am!” he answered. “Which one are you, my son?”Genesis 27:19Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau, your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may bless me.”Genesis 27:20But Isaac asked his son, “How did you ever find it so quickly, my son?” “Because the LORD your God brought it to me,” he replied.Genesis 27:21Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come closer so I can touch you, my son. Are you really my son Esau, or not?”Genesis 27:22So Jacob came close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”Genesis 27:23Isaac did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he blessed him.Genesis 27:24Again he asked, “Are you really my son Esau?” And he replied, “I am.”Genesis 27:25“Serve me,” said Isaac, “and let me eat some of my son’s game, so that I may bless you.” Jacob brought it to him, and he ate; then he brought him wine, and he drank.Genesis 27:26Then his father Isaac said to him, “Please come near and kiss me, my son.”Genesis 27:27So he came near and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothing, he blessed him and said: “Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.Genesis 27:28May God give to you the dew of heaven and the richness of the earth—an abundance of grain and new wine.Genesis 27:29May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. May you be the master of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed, and those who bless you be blessed.”Genesis 27:30As soon as Isaac had finished blessing him and Jacob had left his father’s presence, his brother Esau returned from the hunt.Genesis 27:31He too made some tasty food, brought it to his father, and said to him, “My father, sit up and eat of your son’s game, so that you may bless me.”Genesis 27:32But his father Isaac replied, “Who are you?” “I am Esau, your firstborn son,” he answered.Genesis 27:33Isaac began to tremble violently and said, “Who was it, then, who hunted the game and brought it to me? Before you came in, I ate it all and blessed him—and indeed, he will be blessed!”Genesis 27:34When Esau heard his father’s words, he let out a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me too, O my father!”Genesis 27:35But Isaac replied, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”Genesis 27:36So Esau declared, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has cheated me twice. He took my birthright, and now he has taken my blessing.” Then he asked, “Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”Genesis 27:37But Isaac answered Esau: “Look, I have made him your master and given him all his relatives as servants; I have sustained him with grain and new wine. What is left that I can do for you, my son?”Genesis 27:38Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, O my father!” Then Esau wept aloud.Genesis 27:39His father Isaac answered him: “Behold, your dwelling place shall be away from the richness of the land, away from the dew of heaven above.Genesis 27:40You shall live by the sword and serve your brother. But when you rebel, you will tear his yoke from your neck.”Genesis 35:27Jacob returned to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.Genesis 35:28And Isaac lived 180 years.Genesis 35:29Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.Genesis 49:31There Abraham and his wife Sarah are buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah are buried, and there I buried Leah.
