Genesis 25:25The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esau.Genesis 25:26After that, his brother came out, and his hand had hold on Esau’s heel. He was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.Genesis 26:2Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.Genesis 26:3Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister?’” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”Genesis 26:10Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”Genesis 26:11Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”Genesis 26:12Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.Genesis 26:13The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.Genesis 26:14He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.Genesis 26:15Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.Genesis 26:16Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.”Genesis 26:17Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.Genesis 26:18Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.Genesis 26:19Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.Genesis 26:20The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.Genesis 26:21They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah.Genesis 26:22He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”Genesis 26:23He went up from there to Beersheba.Genesis 26:24Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.”Genesis 26:25He built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.Genesis 26:26Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.Genesis 26:27Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”Genesis 26:28They said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,Genesis 26:29that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”Genesis 26:30He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.Genesis 26:31They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.Genesis 26:32It happened the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”Genesis 26:33He called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.Genesis 27:18He came to his father, and said, “My father?” He said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”Genesis 27:19Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.”Genesis 27:20Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” He said, “Because Yahweh your God gave me success.”Genesis 27:21Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.”Genesis 27:22Jacob went near to Isaac his father. He felt him, and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”Genesis 27:23He didn’t recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother, Esau’s hands. So he blessed him.Genesis 27:24He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He said, “I am.”Genesis 27:25He said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless you.” He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.Genesis 27:26His father Isaac said to him, “Come near now, and kiss me, my son.”Genesis 27:27He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, “Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Yahweh has blessed.Genesis 27:28God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and new wine.Genesis 27:29Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers. Let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Blessed be everyone who blesses you.”Genesis 27:30It happened, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob had just gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.Genesis 27:31He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, “Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that your soul may bless me.”Genesis 27:32Isaac his father said to him, “Who are you?” He said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”Genesis 27:33Isaac trembled violently, and said, “Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.”Genesis 27:34When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, my father.”Genesis 27:35He said, “Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing.”Genesis 27:36He said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing.” He said, “Haven’t you reserved a blessing for me?”Genesis 27:37Isaac answered Esau, “Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my son?”Genesis 27:38Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father.” Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.Genesis 27:39Isaac his father answered him, “Behold, of the fatness of the earth will be your dwelling, and of the dew of the sky from above.Genesis 27:40By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother.
