So in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city, Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham,Genesis 23:11“No, my lord. Listen to me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. I give it to you in the presence of my people. Bury your dead.”Genesis 23:12Again Abraham bowed down before the people of the landGenesis 23:13and said to Ephron in their presence, “If you will please listen to me, I will pay you the price of the field. Accept it from me, so that I may bury my dead there.”Genesis 23:14Ephron answered Abraham,Genesis 23:15“Listen to me, my lord. The land is worth four hundred shekels of silver, but what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.”Genesis 23:16Abraham agreed to Ephron’s terms and weighed out for him the price he had named in the hearing of the Hittites: four hundred shekels of silver, according to the standard of the merchants.Genesis 23:17So Ephron’s field at Machpelah near Mamre, the cave that was in it, and all the trees within the boundaries of the field were deeded overGenesis 23:18to Abraham’s possession in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city.Genesis 23:19After this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field at Machpelah near Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.Genesis 23:20So the field and its cave were deeded by the Hittites to Abraham as a burial site.Genesis 33:19And the plot of ground where he pitched his tent, he purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver.Genesis 47:20So Joseph acquired for Pharaoh all the land in Egypt; the Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields because the famine was so severe upon them. They ate the rations that Pharaoh supplied; so they did not sell their land.Genesis 47:23Then Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have acquired you and your land for Pharaoh this day, here is seed for you to sow in the land.Genesis 47:24At harvest time, you are to give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the field and food for yourselves and your households and children.”Genesis 47:25“You have saved our lives,” they said. “We have found favor in our lord’s eyes, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”Genesis 47:26So Joseph established a law that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh, and it is in effect in the land of Egypt to this day. Only the priests’ land does not belong to Pharaoh.Exodus 23:11but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the wild animals may consume what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and olive grove.Exodus 23:31And I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates. In the Jubilee, however, it is to be released, so that he may return to his property.Leviticus 25:29If a man sells a house in a walled city, he retains his right of redemption until a full year after its sale; during that year it may be redeemed.Leviticus 25:30If it is not redeemed by the end of a full year, then the house in the walled city is permanently transferred to its buyer and his descendants. It is not to be released in the Jubilee.Leviticus 25:31But houses in villages with no walls around them are to be considered as open fields. They may be redeemed, and they shall be released in the Jubilee.Leviticus 25:32As for the cities of the Levites, the Levites always have the right to redeem their houses in the cities they possess.Leviticus 25:33So whatever belongs to the Levites may be redeemed—a house sold in a city they possess—and must be released in the Jubilee, because the houses in the cities of the Levites are their possession among the Israelites.Leviticus 27:17If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your valuation.Leviticus 27:18But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest is to calculate the price in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your valuation will be reduced.Leviticus 27:19And if the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it shall belong to him.Leviticus 27:20If, however, he does not redeem the field, or if he has sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed.Leviticus 27:21When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests.Leviticus 27:22Now if a man consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased, which is not a part of his own property,Leviticus 27:23then the priest shall calculate for him the value up to the Year of Jubilee, and the man shall pay the assessed value on that day as a sacred offering to the LORD.Leviticus 27:24In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom it was bought—the original owner of the land.Numbers 27:1Now the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph.
