MINISTRY TRAINING · MODULE 13 · UNIT 2 OF 4

Classroom Safety and Consent

Study passage: Matthew 18:5-6. Read the whole surrounding chapter before relying on this unit.

Teaching and interpretation

Safety begins with actual policy: appropriate adult ratios, transparent spaces, training, permitted communication channels, check-in and pickup procedures, incident documentation and relevant screening. Children should not be alone with unsupervised adult volunteers. Leaders must follow reporting duties and involve qualified professionals when needed.

Pastoral case to discuss

An adult volunteer creates a private messaging account to counsel young teenagers without parents knowing. What safeguarding violations may this pose?

Describe the relevant facts and what you would still need to know. Do not present assumptions as the person's motives, diagnose a disorder or make unverified claims about Scripture.

Required practical exercise

Draft a youth classroom safety checklist to review with a qualified safeguarding lead.

Support your answers with passages in context and distinguish biblical teaching, historical interpretation, modern professional standards and personal judgment. Keep real people's details confidential.
