But any objection founded on this would apply to the third chapter as well ; and the his- tory of our Lord's childhood seems to have been known to and quoted by Justin Martyr (see Apology, i, § 33, and an allusion. Dial, cum Tryph. 100) about the time of Marcion. There is therefore no real gromid for dis- tinguishing between the first two chapters and the rest ; and the arguments for the genuineness of Luke's Gospel apply to the whole inspired narrative as we now possess it (see Meyer's note ; also Volckmar, p. 130).
