MODULE 01 · Biblical foundations

Reading and Interpreting Scripture

Pastoral teaching must begin by listening carefully to a passage before using it to support a conclusion. This module teaches observation, genre, context, responsible comparison of translations, and the difference between a text's claim and the teacher's inference. Students learn to correct themselves publicly and keep interpretive disagreements from becoming exercises in power.

Four teaching units

UNIT 1 · SCRIPTURE: Luke 10:25-37

Who Speaks and to Whom?

The lawyer's question shapes Jesus' story of the Samaritan. Before treating the parable as a collection of hidden symbols, identify the question, dialogue and final command. UNIT 2 · SCRIPTURE: Psalm 91:1-6

Genres Shape Meaning

UNIT 3 · SCRIPTURE: Nehemiah 8:8

Comparing Translations

English translations differ in vocabulary, idiom, textual decisions and readability. Study the same passage in two available translations, noting where the central claim remains stable and where differences warrant investigation. A Strong's identifier is a research index rather than a secret meaning code. Historical dictionaries are witne…

From Study to Sermon

Pastoral authority is demonstrated by accurate handling of Scripture and accountable conduct. Build an interpretive outline: passage boundaries, historical and literary context, main claim, potential objections and application. Do not fill evidentiary gaps with invented anecdotes or numerical claims. Practice explaining uncertainty in pla…
