MODULE 03 · Biblical foundations

Gospels, Acts, Letters and Revelation

The New Testament contains four accounts of Jesus, narratives about early Christian communities, letters written to specific audiences, and apocalyptic visions. This course trains students to identify the questions that shaped each text and to avoid assigning a single voice to every passage. Historical research can illuminate context while the actual text remains the teaching's primary evidence.

Four teaching units

UNIT 1 · SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:1-4

Four Gospel Witnesses

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are overlapping but distinct witnesses. Luke explicitly explains his concern for accounts and careful presentation; John describes his selection of events. Read their introductions and identify differences in literary shape and emphasis. An honest minister does not invent an exact chronological sequence where …

UNIT 2 · SCRIPTURE: Acts 15:1-21

Acts and Community Leadership

Acts describes communities learning to manage disagreement, mission and questions about who belongs. The Jerusalem gathering is not a blueprint for every modern church meeting, but it shows evidence, testimony, scriptural reasoning and a practical decision. Ask whose voices were present and whose were missing. A modern church must also fo…

UNIT 3 · SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

Letters to Real Congregations

Paul's letters respond to actual communities with disagreements, needs and different gifts. Reading one verse without the problem it addresses leads to poor pastoral advice. In 1 Corinthians 12, unity does not erase differences or mean everyone has identical responsibility. Read the chapter in relation to the letter's broader concern abou…

UNIT 4 · SCRIPTURE: Revelation 21:1-5

Revelation and Humble Interpretation

Revelation uses visions, symbols and echoes of earlier biblical writings to communicate hope and judgment. Interpret its scenes in relation to the letters to churches and their ancient setting before assigning every image to a current headline. Christians disagree about timing and millennium schemes. Make those differences visible and avo…
